At Tree of Life, we recognize the power of the mind and our bodies' natural homeostatic mechanisms. We value this physiology and offer our clients services and products that are specifically chosen based on the science of happiness and well-being. Research consistently shows a number of proven ways to increase life satisfaction. Some examples are relaxing self-care, social connection, spirituality or religious community, exercise, time in nature or with animals, meditation, and hobbies such as cooking, baking, art, or puzzles. Everything in our wellness retail boutique and all of our services are offered because they directly align with this research. Whether it is natural organic skin care, life goals, social connection, or wellness activities, we teach our clients how to use mind-body communication to achieve greater life satisfaction, parenting success, goal accomplishments, and desired skincare outcomes which are all impacted by our thoughts and stress management. We are not only dedicated to our individual clients and their goals, but their families and our greater Wilkes-Barre & Scranton community. With so much stress in the world, we are on a mission to create more balance for all. Please ask us about our Tree of Life Friends in Need Program or how we support charities, and look for us at local events!

When you define self-care, what word combinations come to mind? Chances are they probably don't include mindfulness and skincare combined or maybe not even time with your pets or friends or family. However, we are working to change that. After teaching about the neuroscience, psychology, and physiology of stress, self-care, meditation, and health for almost a decade, we are focused on helping our clients find physical, mental, and spiritual calm that lasts longer than a spa day.
It is fairly common knowledge that "stress kills," but did you know stress can also save? There is bad stress AND good stress (eustress), and to be happier and healthier, you want to know this science to make better choices to lead a calmer, more joyful life. Stress can impact your skin, but have you included any relaxation practices into your daily skincare ritual? The science indicates there is a benefit to this, and we want to teach our clients about it. The field is called psychodermatology, and according to Dr. Keira Barr (This is Why Your Skin & Mental Health Are So Connected, 2019), research shows "that stress stimulates both the brain and the skin to signal the release of hormones that can trigger inflammation, impair wound healing, accelerate aging, and worsen skin conditions including acne, eczema, and psoriasis." Opposite of this, mindfulness, connection, and self-care practices calm the mind and the body (including the skin) when done on a regular basis. Despite the large amounts of studies that highlight these positive impacts, the principles are not commonly known by the public. Most of the time, individuals are focused solely on caring for the skin from the outside without healing it from the inside. But at Tree of Life, we think working from the inside is even more important, so we work in both directions. This not only helps current concerns, but helps to proactively combat future issues from occurring. When you visit, please expect our natural organic skin care treatments to be infused with at least some elements of mindfulness, even if it is just an element of relaxation. We recognize that not everyone is comfortable with deep relaxation, so please be sure to share with us your comfort level so we can cater our sanctuary to your unique needs.
With so much stress and endless responsibilities in life, we strive to teach our clients how to incorporate self-care rituals that are easy, enjoyable, and beneficial for individuals of all ages. From individual coaching, group classes, and social events to relaxing spa treatments and our wellness retail boutique, our clients learn how to take home the spa experience for longer lasting results but in a way that is realistic for busy schedules.
At Tree of Life, happiness is a way of living. After all, we recognize that the body and mind are intertwined and we need to consciously care for both. Therefore, our goal for everyone is to help you better understand how to calm your mind and body for more sustained joy in your life without bogging you down with confusing scientific jargon. Come see how we are different. We are not far from Exeter, Dallas, Wilkes-Barre, or Scranton areas.
Born and raised in northeast PA, Rebecca earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in educational leadership. With a career spanning over two decades in higher education, Rebecca has extensive experience counseling and advising students and their families, organizing events, developing community service initiatives, and teaching at various local colleges. Notably, her time as a full-time professor in the Division of Social Sciences at Lackawanna College allowed her to discover her passion for life coaching and teaching subjects such as psychology, sociology, and human services. It was during this period that she developed a deep interest in educating others about the neuroscience of stress, mindfulness, and the significance of self-care. However, after 22 years of teaching and advising at the college level, Rebecca felt called to focus exclusively on educational and stress reduction-based wellness services and skincare.
As an advocate for education and personal growth, Rebecca remains committed to furthering her own education to best serve her clients. In addition to being a licensed esthetician (LE) in Pennsylvania, some of her additional certifications include:
As a business owner who deeply values family, Rebecca understands the constant stress and pressure of having multiple responsibilities. It is important to us that we give back on a regular basis. Mindfulness, life coaching, and esthetics treatments are incredibly soul soothing to many people. According to Dacher Keltner from the Greater Good at Berkeley (Hands On Research: The Science of Touch, 2010), "everyday forms of touch can bring us emotional balance and better health" and it is a "primary means for spreading compassion." If you know someone who is deserving of a complementary service and are located in the Exeter, Dallas, Wilkes-Barre, or Scranton areas, please nominate them here. Thank you!
